Tumaga River WQMA Governing Board

The Tumaga River Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) Governing Board was created in 2013 by virtue of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order No. 2013-01 that designated the Tumaga River WQMA.

Republic Act No. 9275, otherwise known as the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004, mandates the DENR, in coordination with the National Water Resources Board (NWRB), to designate certain areas as WQMAs. The designation of a WQMA aims to improve the quality of surface water bodies for them to meet the water quality guidelines under which they have been classified or to improve their classification so that they meet their potential or projected use.

The Governing Board is responsible in the preparation of the WQMA Action Plan that provides focused intervention/s to address specific water quality problem/s in the area. The Tumaga River WQMA Governing Board has the following membership: Office of the City Mayor, barangays (Guiwan, Mampang, Pasonanca, Sta. Maria, Tugbungan, Tumaga, and Zambowood), NWRB, PAMB, national government agencies (DOH, DOST, DTI, NEDA, NCIP, CHED, DepEd, DPWH, PIA, BFAR HLURB), FARMC, Environmental NGO (PCOAI, SEEP), water utility sector (ZCWD), business sector (Tugbungan Fishpond Operators' Association), and the academe (WMSU). The Board is chaired by the Regional Director of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) IX.
