The Multi-sectoral Group of the Governing Board visits industries within the Tumaga River WQMA
The Multi-sectoral Group (MSG) of the Tumaga River Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) Governing Board conducted a plant visit to industries within the WQMA on October 11, 2016. The activity aimed to provide capacity building for the MSG for it to effectively carry out its function on water quality monitoring and surveillance. Specifically, the activity intended to disseminate information and knowledge to the members of the MSG on the waste management strategy of industries operating within the Tumaga River WQMA.
Hon. Samuel P. Natividad, chair of Barangay Guiwan, welcomed the MSG members at his barangay before they proceeded to Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, Inc., a bottling plant located at Barangay Tetuan. Upon arrival, the MSG Head, Hon. Agustin E. Graciano, Jr. of Barangay Tugbungan, introduced the participants to the personnel of the firm. The participants were then apprised of the safety and security procedures to observe while inside the plant. A PowerPoint presentation on the sources and treatment of the firm’s wastewater was presented by Mr. Irvin Caangay, production supervisor of the firm.
The MSG members were then led to the firm’s production and wastewater treatment facilities to view the actual operations of the bottling plant.

The group also visited MKBVI Poultry Dressing Plant located at Barangay Boalan. Mr. Dennis Atilano, plant supervisor, and Engr. Jaime Mosqueda, plant Pollution Control Officer (PCO), were there to facilitate the walkthrough at the plant facilities. Engr. Mosqueda gave an orientation to the group on the wastewater treatment process employed by the firm. The firm makes use of the sequencing batch reactor (SBR) system, which is a set of tanks that operate on a fill-and-draw basis, to treat its raw wastewater.
In behalf of the group, Hon. Graciano thanked the personnel of the firm for the opportunity to be informed of the plant’s operations.
