Graciano, Jr. of Barangay Tugbungan presided over the meeting. The MSG was updated on the results of the 2016 water quality monitoring of the Tumaga River.
The Tumaga River is monitored for pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), total coliform and fecal coliform at the thirteen (13) monitoring stations of the river. The annual average values for pH showed compliance with the water quality guidelines (WQG) provided under DENR Administrative Order No. 2016-08. On the other hand, the DO concentrations exceeded the WQG at the downstream section and one (1) station at the midstream section. For BOD, exceedance resulted in the downstream section (except for one station) and one (1) station at the midstream section. The report indicated that the BOD concentration at the downstream section from 2011 to 2016 is increasing. The TSS concentrations exceeded the guidelines at the midstream section. High concentrations were noted in all stations for total coliform. Under the new WQG, there is no more criteria for total coliform. For fecal coliform, the concentration exceeded the guideline values in all stations. Further, the concentration from 2011 to 2016 at the downstream and midstream sections show a decreasing trend.
