The Governing Board engages the youth in a digital poster and slogan competition

In recognition of the youth as a vital instrument in informing, educating, and persuading the people and stakeholders in realizing their roles and responsibilities in water quality management, the Tumaga River WQMA Governing Board conducted a digital poster and slogan competition in June 2019. The participating youth were those that reside in Barangays Pasonanca, Sta. Maria, Tumaga, Tetuan, Guiwan, Tugbungan, Boalan, Mampang, and Zambowood.


With the theme “Stop Water Pollution”, the competition was also conducted as part of the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month. Eight (8) entries submitted by the participating barangays were judged by the Governing Board and Multi-sectoral Group members according to the following criteria:

  • Creativity and presentation – 40%

  • Originality – 30%

  • Relevance to the theme (both poster and slogan) – 30%

The judging of the entries and awarding of winners were conducted simultaneous with the IEC campaign on solid waste management and environmental sanitation to household members of Barangay Pasonanca on June 27, 2019 at the Astoria Regency Hotel, Pasonanca, Zamboanga City.


The participants of the competition also received a medal of appreciation for their efforts and the winners were awarded cash checks amounting to Php 15,000 for the first placer, Php 10,000 for the second placer and Php 5,000 for the third placer. The following were the winners and their respective scores garnered:

  • 1st prize – Mr. Dennis John B. Bucoy of Barangay Boalan – 89.89%

  • 2nd prize – Mr. Kenneth Luciano Samirun of Barangay Mampang – 89.46%

  • 3rd prize – Mr. Ace Franco G. Ventura of Barangay Pasonanca – 87.47%
